This is Bella D’s Story

Howdy All,

My name is Kim.  I found Tripawds as I searched the web through tear-flooded eyes.  Although I was truly grateful for the support, and reassurance, as I read your stories, I couldn’t reply or post let alone come to grips with the news I had been given.  Not in a million years could I believe what I was hearing but here’s our story……

Hi, my name is Bella, well my full name is Savvy’s Itsy Bella.  My breeder thought my name would be Perky, she was ‘spot on’ for my personality mom says.  I am an Akita born and raised in upstate NY and I am 6 years old.  My birthday is May 9th…. I can’t wait for my presents.  I LOVE the cold weather and I love to play with my peeps – I love my people!  I have a very large circle of friends and I accept new friends very easily.  I recently came up missing a leg…. I knew I felt sick but I didn’t think they’d take my leg.  You would never guess my kind could walk and play without a leg, but guess what?  I feel much, much better and I can play, jump, and climb stairs like I used to.  Here’s mom’s version of what happened….

December 19, 2016

I thought Bella had twisted her leg because she likes to go from 0 to 60 in 2 seconds flat.  I thought maybe she jumped from the deck stairs chasing a squirrel or something as she had a very slight limp.  She had a tiny bit of swelling that would come and go just like the slight limp…. that too would come and go for the coming week.  I decided to take her for x-rays.  The news was surreal and overwhelming.  I remember hearing anything BUT a sprain or pulled muscle.   As a matter of fact, I really can’t remember the words the vet was saying except ‘osteosarcoma’ and the tears began streaming from my eyes involuntarily.  We would not do anything invasive at this point, so we decided to wait for the next x-rays to confirm the initial diagnosis.  We spent the next 3 weeks praying she wouldn’t break her leg.  Seeing the pics below was pretty scary for me.

Please keep checking back…. working on this a little at a time.  [subscribe-by-email-form autopt=”true”]

Thank you for reading our story…. Have a great day!
